The Bridge
The Bridge Community Venue is at the heart of the Bridge Church; a resource and outreach centre through which we can reach out and serve the community. It may not look like, or sound like traditional church, but it is church! In the words of Lt. Spock of the US Starship Enterprise “Its church Jim but not as we know it!”
We have a dream, which is to show people that God is not hiding away in an ivory tower somewhere or only to be found in a ‘religious’ service on Sunday. Instead he is found right in the heart of a community of people, because it is people that he loves! We passionately believe that God’s heart for the church is to engage with the world, not to isolate and withdraw.
The Bridge is developing all manner of community projects from youth drop-in café to OAP lunches, from computer training courses to dynamic bible studies, from work experience to kids club.
We are forming good healthy partnerships with the local authority and other charitable bodies and have recently been appointed the lead agents providing a number of projects into the Orchard Estate.
This may be an unconventional way to ‘do church’ but we feel it is the way God is leading us, and tangibly expresses his compassion for the world. Christianity needs credibility, and credibility is gained as we contribute towards meeting the needs of those around us.
Chris Kapnisis is our Community Development Director and he has been central to the initiation and building up of the Bridge. Chris is an experienced and gifted professional in his field who has run his own business and more recently developed a number of great projects for the YMCA. He is one of the key leaders in the church and an accredited minister with AOG. More than all of that, Chris is a faith inspired man of God who is passionate about expressing Christ’s love in a real and purposeful way.
